Hi Guys!

It has been 2 months since I re-launched my site and more than 25,000 visits so I think it's about time to formally introduce myself.

My name is Rodny Mella and I work professionally as a Product Designer.  My background is Fine Arts Major in Advertising from University Santo Tomas, Manila. I have been in the field of manufacturing design for almost a decade now. Prior to being product designer I work as game designer for 2 years at Micronet Japan.

From childhood I love drawing and sketching. My parents encouraged me since childhood by providing me with materials and media to use and most of it are self thought. I started oil painting at 9 and since then love the medium. Growing up I has tried various traditional media such as, gouache, charcoal, poster color and watercolor.

Once in the mid-90’s I saw this animation entitled Toy Story by Pixar which were all done in 3D, since then I have strong inkling to learning computer graphics. Luckily, in 1996 I was hired by Micronet Software Manila a game developer from Japan as a game designer. There I was able to learn Computer Graphics and 3D animation. First 2D and 3D program I learn was Photoshop 5, Illustrator and Lightwave 3D v.4, respectively. Since then these three programs have been stable tools I use for designing. Made few game projects for the first Playstation and work there for 2 years before moving to product designing.

I am currently located here in Shenzhen City, China and frequently to Hong Kong as our Head office is located there.

I like doing digital painting, concept designing, illustrations and animation. Most images in this website are personal project and freelance gigs, I have not include my professional work for confidential reasons.

Partially, beside this site being my web portfolio it’s also a means of teaching the knowledge I gain through the years of using Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter and Lightwave and even web, concept and product designing.

This website has been up and running since 2005 but since it is laborious using html I do seldom be able to update it. Now I upgraded my site using PHP. I learned PHP programming in two months to be able to design a dynamic site and this one that is very easy to update,  blog style with lots of images and with comments and track backs.

I thank you all very much for visiting this small blog/portfolio and tutorial site. I am looking forward to showing you more exciting artworks and writing more tutorials for you guys to learn and hopefully upload some video tutorials too. I hope you keep visiting my site and bookmark it.
